When we started our travels, we each took one book. „Russia“ by Jonathan Dimbleby, a BBC journalist who writes about his travels through Russia, from Murmansk to Vladivostok (highly recommendable, not only on tour through Russia). The other one was a German book called „Fliegen ohne Flügel“ by Tiziano Terzani, a journalist who worked for the Spiegel and writes in this book about his extensive travels in Asia. It’s an interesting read, but a bit too esoteric for our taste.
Anyway, the curious thing is that since a few days, the picture of Jonathan Dimbleby on the back cover of the Russia book is missing. Someone cut it out with a knife by the looks of it… We don’t know when exactly it happened or what might be anyone’s incentive to cut out a photo, but if this is the only theft we encounter during the whole trip, we’ll call ourselves lucky.
